Case Study: Quality Content ALWAYS Wins

Here’s a brief case study for you that you might find very interesting. My brother has recently started a website, Car Codgers, that is all about interesting motoring news and cars (he is probably the world’s biggest car fanatic). Now this site is only a couple of months old, and he hasn’t done a speck of link building or SEO. Heck, even his permalink structure is set up all wrong in WordPress:

That’s pretty whack huh? I mean ALL the gurus know that if you don’t have your SEO settings right (courtesy of their $97 plugin) you can never rank?

Well check this out:

Yup that’s a first page ranking for a news term, on the same page as the official Top Gear website. Except he’s ranking on an almost brand-new site with zero social signals or links.

Have you seen the Jeff Gordon/Pepsi Max joyride yet? If not, then searching it on Google will reveal this:

Yup, he’s ranking 1st place ABOVE the official Pepsi Max Facebook page. With his non-optimized pages – how cool is that?

On a new site he has even seen traffic figures as high as 150 visits a day, which is very good for a beginner (more than some of my niche sites receive, although cars have a lot of interest compared to many topics)

Now my brother spends at least 2 hours a day writing useful news, review, and general discussion articles about cars into his Car Codgers site. He doesn’t do any link building, social media, or anything like that whatsoever.

The reason his site is already ranking and doing well is simple; he is regularly adding quality, unique content on relevant topics.

At the end of the day, if you want to play the long game with Internet marketing, then that is all there is to it. The more useful content you have, the better.

Of course things like social media (Twitter, Facebook, Google Plus etc) do help a lot, and I cannot deny that link building also has an important role to play in competition-heavy niches. However, at the end of the day if you only have time to do an hour’s work a day to build your online business, then I suggest you spend that hour adding truly useful and unique content to your site(s) – this will give you the most bang for your buck!

You can check out Car Codgers for yourself here. Also, take a look at curtain styles & types, which is a site I am helping to optimize at the moment – this site pulls over 500 visitors a day and that’s all because of the industry-leading content.
